Bookshelf

16 March, 2017 Deborah Haynes Leave a Comment

A bookshelf can say an awful lot
About the books a person’s got
So have a look when next you visit
Browse and think before you sit.

“Long Walk to Freedom”
Man’s hope of peace to come
A large book of thought
History on a page bought.

“Make Do and Mend”
Inspired while men defend
Nostalgic, necessary info
From a time not long ago.

“Introduction to Fung Shui”
Intriguing, spiritual way
Put things in a certain place
Maybe calm the human race.

“Keeping an Allotment”
Doing it right, very important
Nurture the seeds you sow
Fruit and veg you’ll grow.

“The Art of Happiness”
Relieve some of our stress
A calming insight of mind
A way of living, being kind.

“Victorian Farm”
A time perhaps more calm
Delights of how it was done
Hard work with horses gone.

“Grow Your Own Veg”
Another book with mucky edge
A so called expert tells you how
On the shelf it remains now.

“Mrs Beeton’s Preserves”
How to jar your reserves
Home-grown from the other book
Take from shelf, have a look.

“Sylvia Pankhurst”
A woman who was first
Fought for women to vote
A purple ribbon on her coat.

“My Grammar and I”
I look, I laugh, I sigh
I take it from the shelf
I look, I try, I confuse myself.
