Lonely

18 September, 2015 Elsie Fewtrell Leave a Comment

I’m a little mongrel, a little pup
And I know I don’t amount to much.
But I’m left on my own all day, all day
While you go out to earn your pay.

You say you love me, perhaps you do
In your own way and when it suits you.
You pick me up and you put me down,
I’ve got on say or rights of my own.

You say, “Stay there and be a good boy.”
But can’t you see I’m not a toy.
I’m sad and lonely, I want a friend,
Don’t leave me for hours on end.

I’ve got such love and trust to give,
Yet what a barren life I live.
If you’ve no time to love or care,
Why didn’t you buy a Teddy Bear!
